Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange data between a website hosting server and a client. Due to the fact that the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of managing a hosting account. The commands which can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the possibilities are limited because you will not have root access to the web server, so you can simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. These are all actions that are performed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account with our company and you want to handle your content remotely using SSH, you may obtain SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't include this feature as standard, you could add it with a few clicks via the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you shall see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You could also select what password you would want to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We have prepared several Help articles where you could find all of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, as well as examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide you with the possibility to access and manage them via SSH. If the package you have selected includes this feature by default, you just need to activate the SSH access feature via the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the function is listed as an optional upgrade, you could quickly add it through the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia CP and it will be available within a minute. We have a variety of help articles and educational videos about the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands which you can perform together with a number of examples to provide you with a better perception of what you can do. If SSH is enabled, you shall also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload files securely using any FTP application that supports the function.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

You'll be able to use SSH to manage your content regardless of which Linux VPS hosting packages you pick when you sign up, since all of our packages include this function by default. You'll not have to add or enable anything manually - immediately after your web server is prepared and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login information, you could connect and begin working on your sites or any software which you want to set up and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be isolated from all of the other accounts within the physical web server, you will be able to do anything you need with no restrictions. You'll be able to set up any app that you need and which shall run on a Linux-based hosting server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases efficiently.
